Every piece a story: “DESIGN – MADE IN SAXONY” presents 16 selected designers from Saxony. Each of them tells a unique story about new combinations, sustainability and the reinvention of traditions. Explore high-quality design and crafts, from jewellery to fashion, porcelain, glass, paper, wood and lighting design as well as innovative sports equipment.

Anne Hennig Schmuckdesign

Anke Hennig creates contemporary jewelry from textile materials. The origin of her jewelry is a thin thread. Growth and repetition are the defining themes of her work. For the production of the jewelry Anke Hennig uses an almost forgotten textile braiding technique from the 19th century, called “crochet gallon”.

The turnery Schalling is a family business in the fourth generation and manufactures all products in elaborate handwork. “Zamm” is a playful reinterpretation of the traditional Erzgebirge figures angel and miner. The light angels combine the unique Erzgebirge craftsmanship with a modern contemporary design language.

dreizehngrad is a manufacturer of handmade lamps and presents the latest lamp series DISCO. dreizehngrad loves authentic, natural materials and the daily contact with them. The lamps are characterized by the material wood. Through the annual rings and the natural coloring each lamp tells its very own story.

Elementaris

Elementaris makes unique jewelry from porcelain and silver. In the beginning there is the material: porcelain, a raw material that is not hard but soft and thus makes completely different methods of processing necessary and possible. Finest surface structures are possible and the starting point of the works. The collection “Bubbles” was created in cooperation with the label Corinna Aurelia.

Heike Berl

Heike Berl reinterprets papermaking. The craft of papermaking has a long tradition. The production of a sheet is essential and of enormous cultural and historical significance. Heike Berl uses this technique, interprets it in a modern way and develops from it works of art in the field of tension between German contemporary history and environmental aspects.

Bettina Kletzsch

The Kletzsch fashion house was founded in Bischofswerda in 1847. The studied fashion designer Bettina Kletzsch continues the family tradition in an extraordinary way in the fifth generation. The designer creates artistic, experimental fashion from high-quality fabrics in her own production in Dresden. Each piece is unique!

Nómada Rucksack

The label Nómada was born in Santiago de Chile in 2016 and moved to Dresden one year later. In the small studio Nómada designs and manufactures backpacks, tote bags, hip bags and accessories in small series. Great emphasis is placed on a minimalist and timeless design, on the use of exquisite and preferably sustainable materials to create long-lasting products.

The possibilities offered by porcelain as a material are almost inexhaustible for an artist. Claudia Biehne is interested in exploring this cosmos. The series “Lumos” consists of delicate lamps for hanging and bowl-like objects for standing.

silbaerg manufactures innovative boardsports products in Saxony with the patented A.L.D.-tech.®. The boards in small series are largely produced locally and continuously developed in technology as well as sustainability. silbaerg was spun off from the Chemnitz University of Technology in 2011 and has since been selling the boards worldwide.

Torsten Rötzsch works with hot glass and uses it in its full range. All the objects he creates are freely shaped and made with a clear sense of proportion. In the design and manufacture, the proportions are very important to him, as well as a new perspective on the very traditional techniques of this craft.

The Dresden-based manufacturer TOFF & ZÜRPEL has been producing handmade beeswax wipes since 2017. Their certified organic beeswax cloths are the reusable alternative to cling film and aluminum foil and have numerous beneficial properties that allow food to stay fresh longer.

Kerstin Rößler

Kerstin Rößler produces individual light objects that are reminiscent of dandelions with their countless little umbrellas floating along. When paper is brought into a new context with light, this material loses its characterization as commonly banal, understood as an everyday material.

WESTOSTERON

WESTOSTERON is an interior and product design studio. Since 2007 the team develops and licenses multifaceted designs for furniture, accessories and lighting. The wall clock FRAKTUHR completely without hands lies in the field of tension between an abstracted wall clock and an object. At exactly one point the full hour is visible, shortly thereafter it dissolves again.

DESIGNBLOK 2021

The designblok, the international Prague design festival, is the largest design and fashion fair in Central Europe and opens its doors from October 06 to 10, 2021. This year, outstanding Saxon design will be presented there for the first time as part of a joint stand.

designblok presents a selection of designers and producers from all over Europe, including both prestigious brands and prototypes by up-and-coming designers. Over 200 exhibitors participate in the fair, which is divided into Superstudio, Openstudio and Art House sections. In 2021, designblok will take place in the historic Gabriel Loci building complex. In parallel, dozens of galleries, showrooms and pop-up stores in the city will open their doors and offer additional programming. The festival attracts more than 50,000 visitors from all over the world every year.
